At St. Peter's School our aim is for each student to develop useful mathematical skills that can be applied in everyday life. The Mathematics program is based on the Victorian Curriculum and provides students with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in the three strands of :

1. Number and Algebra
2. Measurement and Geometry
3. Statistics and Probability

Through these strands, the curriculum also includes developing mathematical understanding, fluency, reasoning, modelling and problem-solving. These capabilities enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by using mathematics to solve problems efficiently. Links are made between the different mathematical concepts as well as with other curriculum areas.

Our mathematical classroom includes hands on activities where students get to manipulate materials to solve problems and reflect on what they have learnt. They have opportunities to discuss their thinking and record their answers in many different ways.  A range of assessment tools are also used to identify each student’s strengths and areas of need.
